Welcome to Cawthron Institute’s Culture Collection of Micro-algae (CICCM)

The Cawthron Institute Culture Collection of Micro-algae (CICCM) is a collection of mainly toxic micro-algae. The collection underpins government funded harmful algal bloom (HAB) and biotoxin research at Cawthron Institute, including the Seafood Safety programme and the Managing Lethal Algal Blooms programme and also underpins many international research projects. The nationally significant collection has developed steadily over nearly three decades. Several species are unique to New Zealand and other more cosmopolitan species have unique toxin profiles.
